Federal law requires most insurers to cover the cost of one breast pump per pregnancy. If you’re in the U.S. and go in-network to get a breast pump, you probably won’t have to pay anything for it.
Why use a breast pump?
The number one reason most moms pump is to protect their milk supply when they’re away from their baby, especially when they return to work. This means you have milk for your baby and also helps to keep breasts comfortable and avoid painful inflammation, or even serious illness, like mastitis.
Some parents also need to pump very early on if their baby can’t quite latch on yet. This is especially common if your baby is born early. Pumping gives you a layer of flexibility if you want help with feeding your baby at any point in your journey.
Breast pumps are available through your medical plan. You can learn more about your breast pump benefits through Garney by calling Quantum at (888) 552-0455.
