What are the Ovia Family Awards?
Every year we ask Ovia parents to nominate the products and brands that supported their parenting journey and to tell us how/why they made such an impact on their lives.
We analyze thousands of votes, pieces of feedback, and thoughtful recommendations to find the best of the best to give an Ovia Family Award. When you see our seal, you know that what you’re buying was chosen by parents who have used it, trust it, and really do recommend it to families just like yours.
In this category, we’re giving awards for:

Best Prenatal Vitamin: One A Day
I took these vitamins every day and I had a healthy pregnancy, birth, postpartum and a very healthy baby.”
People typically aren’t excited about adding yet another thing to their daily routine, so we were surprised by how genuinely excited the Ovia community is about One A Day vitamins! They completely swept the vote with 58% percent of Ovia parents saying they love One A Day – the largest lead of any product in any category.
In looking through the reviews, it’s clear that One A Day prenatals are so highly recommended for three main reasons:
Here’s what the Ovia community had to say.
“Didn’t have that nasty smell or taste that lots of other vitamins have. Didn’t cause any nausea for me either.”
“I really like the coating that is on the outside of the pill. I’m terrible at taking pills, so anything that has a shiny finish or I can swallow easily, I can handle. This one was easy for me!”
Morning sickness can be a huge issue for expecting moms—it can lead to food aversions which are a real pain. It’s awful when your daily prenatal becomes a trigger for your nausea.
“I used a few different kinds of prenatal, but after years of taking them through fertility treatments & a pregnancy, I couldn’t stand to swallow another pill physically. So, I switched to the gummy version of these & they worked great and helped me continue taking prenatals even when I was having a rough go of it.”
The fact that One A Day vitamins don’t have an odor and are easy to swallow means you’re a lot less likely to have issues with them. And, if you do, they make gummies too! In fact, 70% of parents we surveyed said that they prefer gummy prenatals.
“I used these all throughout my first pregnancy, not knowing that my insurance covered prenatals, and they are affordable, extremely comparable to prescription prenatal vitamins.”
It’s possible that you can get prenatals through your insurance. How this works differs from one provider to another, and sometimes comes with a co-pay. It’s also likely that if you have an HSA/FSA you can use it to pay for your prenatals, even over the counter vitamins like One A Day.
We loved learning that One A Day can be just as affordable as prescription options!
“I like these because they have DHA included, so I don’t have to take an additional supplement.”
DHA is an important nutrient for baby brain development. If your prenatal doesn’t have it, you’ll likely need to take an additional pill. If one pill was hard to swallow, two pills is…well…twice as hard to swallow. DHA is typically derived from fish oil, so those extra supplements have the added problem of often smelling and tasting a little fishy.
Extra pills and a fishy experience aren’t an issue with One A Day, because it provides you with DHA and the all nutrients you need in just one supplement.
