Burning/painful urination during pregnancy

Burning or painful urination may be a symptom of an infection, and so usually necessitates a call to the healthcare provider.

What causes it?

Oftentimes, painful or burning urination will be the result of an infection like bacterial vaginosis or a urinary tract infection, or a sexually transmitted disease (STD) like chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis or genital herpes. As with any infection, burning or painful urination probably deserves a call to your healthcare provider.

Tips?

Because burning or painful urination is so often the result of an infection, it’s a good idea to call your healthcare provider at the first sign of trouble, as prescribed antibiotics may be the likely solution for the irritation.
