Clumsiness when pregnant

Many women display signs of clumsiness during pregnancy, and over 25% of pregnant women report falling down at least once over the course of their term. It can be difficult to adjust to getting around when your body changes so radically in a relatively short amount of time.

What causes it?

Because you are gaining weight and your stomach is growing, your center of gravity is changing, which can affect your sense of balance. In addition, pregnancy hormones may make your ligaments looser, so you may notice yourself more prone to slipping.

Tips?

There is not much you can do to treat the dizziness, so the best you can hope for is to manage it. If you’ve been experiencing problems with balance, it might be a smart idea to avoid high heels, walking on the ice, and other situations like ladders where you might be at risk. Comfortable shoes and proper lighting also might contribute to a better sense of balance. You should also rise slowly coming from a seated or lying position.
