Forgetfulness when pregnant

Also known as “pregnancy brain”, many women report feeling very forgetful during gestation, however, no changes to the brain actually take place. This is perfectly common, and not a cause for concern unless the forgetfulness is a result of a head injury.

What causes it?

Forgetfulness during pregnancy is most likely a result of losing sleep, something that would make anybody, not just pregnant women, forgetful. Hormones could also play a role in the forgetfulness, as your brain is surrounded by the estrogen and progesterone coursing through your body, affecting the neurons in the brain.

Tips?

Although there is nothing that directly treats “pregnancy brain”, getting more sleep, and writing important things down could help keep your memory from going by the wayside. Memory problems should not be much of an issue unless they start putting you or others at risk.
